Frequently Asked Questions
Why Apple Home? Apple Home is the most reliable, polished, and user-friendly smart home interface available. It's deeply integrated into the Apple ecosystem most homeowners already use, and it delivers a consistent, simple experience that other apps simply can't match.
I'm an Android user - is there an option for me? Yes, though we'll be upfront: Android doesn't have a solution as seamlessly rounded as Apple Home. For Android households, we can use google, we prefer to install Control4, which is still a genuinely excellent smart home platform with great features and reliability. It just doesn't integrate into your everyday world the way Apple Home does for iPhone users - the ecosystem connection simply isn't there in the same way. We'll always be honest about the trade-offs so you can make the right call for your household.
What's involved in a new build? For new builds, we install a professional-grade backend lighting control system, our preference is KNX or C-Bus, which handles the physical dimmers, relays, and switch buttons throughout the home. We then integrate Apple Home on top as the app interface, giving you beautiful, reliable control from day one.
I already have a C-Bus (or similar) system - can you help? Absolutely. This is one of our specialities. Many homes have solid infrastructure already installed, but the app interface is clunky, unreliable, or outdated. We can come in, assess your existing system, and integrate Apple Home on top - so you get a dramatically better experience without necessarily replacing everything.
What does the upgrade process look like for an existing home? We start with a site assessment to understand what's already installed and what condition it's in. We then quote based on the best-case scenario — i.e., assuming the existing infrastructure is functional and we're adding Apple Home on top. As part of most upgrades, we also recommend installing new networking (internet + Wi-Fi), upgrading cameras to Ubiquiti (UniFi), and fitting a UniFi doorbell or intercom. This combination of UniFi + Apple Home is the most reliable setup we've found.
What if some of my existing equipment is faulty or damaged? We quote assuming everything works. If we discover issues on-site - a damaged cable, faulty hardware, or anything that was already broken before we arrived, we'll work through those at an hourly rate to rectify them. It's simply not possible to know every problem hidden inside a home that's been running for 10-15 years, and we're transparent about that upfront.
Do you only do full Apple Home installations, or can you help with just part of my home? We do general work too. If you just need cameras installed, a Wi-Fi upgrade, or a new network set up — without a full Apple Home integration — we can absolutely help with that. We're happy to scope whatever makes sense for your situation, whether that's a single-room fix or a whole-home overhaul.
Why do you recommend replacing the network? A smart home is only as good as its network. Apple Home in particular relies on a stable, well-configured Wi-Fi environment. We install and configure UniFi networking equipment, which is enterprise-grade, rock solid, and plays beautifully with Apple Home.
Why UniFi cameras and intercoms? The UniFi ecosystem paired with Apple Home is the most reliable combination we've found. The cameras and doorbell integrate cleanly, look premium, and give you a seamless experience - whether you're at home or on the other side of the world.
Do I need to replace all my existing smart home hardware? Not necessarily. The goal is always to make the most of what's already there. We'll tell you honestly what's worth keeping and what needs upgrading to get the best result.
Is Apple Home secure? Apple Home is one of the most secure smart home platforms available, and there's a simple reason for that: Apple. Apple's dedicated security team is likely larger than the entire headcount of most competing smart home brands combined. Every device that connects to Apple Home must pass Apple's HomeKit certification, which includes strict encryption and privacy standards. Your home data stays on your devices and iCloud — it's not being sold or stored on a third-party server. For anyone serious about the security of their home and their data, Apple Home is the clear choice.
